Tampa Police Search For 3 Suspects In Jewelry Store Robbery

Police said the armed robbery happened Friday afternoon at Liberty Jewelers in Tampa.

TAMPA, FL — Police are searching for three people they say robbed a Tampa jewelry store at gunpoint Friday.

According to Tampa police, the robbery happened around 1:20 p.m. at Liberty Jewelers, located at 1957 W. MLK Blvd.

Police said about 20 minutes earlier, a gray Nissan Altima with a white paper tag attached was seen driving around the parking lot outside the business. A Black woman then entered the store and walked around for a few minutes before leaving, police said.

According to authorities, the woman returned minutes later and held the door open for two Black men behind her. Police said the first man, wearing a black hoodie and armed with a hammer, approached a display case and smashed the glass before grabbing multiple items.

Police said the second man, who was armed and wearing a yellow jacket, remained at the door with the woman and pointed the gun toward the inside of the store. As he pointed the gun, police said an armed employee fired at the suspects, causing them to flee.

No injuries were reported. Police said the bullet from the employee's gun struck an unoccupied car in the parking lot.
