Tampa Sandbag Stations, Precautions Ahead Of Tropical Storm Ian

Three sandbag stations are now open daily in the city of Tampa ahead of Tropical Storm Ian. Residents should know their evacuation zone.

TAMPA, FL — Three sandbag locations are now open in the city of Tampa, and officials urge residents to clear storm drains of debris and know their evacuation zone.

The City of Tampa's Emergency Management team continues to monitor Tropical Storm Ian, which may impact the region within the next few days.

SANDBAG STATION ACTIVATION SCHEDULE

As of Sunday, the sites will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. until further notice. Sandbags are free to city of Tampa residents.

The City of Tampa will have bags, sand and shovels available. There will also be volunteers available to help those who cannot fill their own sandbags.

Tampa residents interested in receiving sandbags must show identification verifying residence within the city limits. A valid driver's license, utility bill or electric bill will serve as appropriate identification. There is a 10-bag limit.

In addition, the City of Tampa asks residents who have a storm drain on their property t0 check to ensure the drain is clear of all debris, including leaves and trash.

Residents should report flooding issues by calling (813) 274-3101.

Safety Precautions

  • During any heavy rainfall or severe weather event, the City of Tampa encourages the motoring public to heed traffic advisories, obey traffic signs/detours, and to exercise caution when driving in and around standing water.
  • Do not drive through water – it is difficult to determine how deep the water is.
  • It is best to avoid driving unless necessary.
  • Treat non-functioning traffic signals as a 4-way stop.
  • If you see a road closed, please follow the detour signs.
  • Avoid any downed or hanging power lines - they may be live.
