Tampa Teen Dies From Injuries Following Fireworks Explosion

A 16-year-old Tampa teen has died as a result of injuries he received when fireworks exploded in his hand.

TAMPA, FL -- A 16-year-old Tampa teen has died as a result of injuries he received when fireworks exploded in his hand.

On Thursday, July 5 at 10:54 p.m., Tampa Police responded to the 4200 block of East Osborne Avenue to find residents tending to Joseph M. King, 16, of 3713 N. 35th St., Tampa, who received trauma to his left hand and upper left torso. King was holding a tube containing a mortar shell-style firework when it detonated.

Police began aid until Tampa Fire Rescue arrived and transported him to Tampa General Hospital . Despite efforts by medical staff at the hospital, the teen died.
