Two South Tampa Women to Be Honored at Women of Distinction Luncheon

Robin DeLaVergne and Deirdre Dixon will be honored for their professional achievements that inspire the young members of the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida to attain their own goals and dreams.

Girl Scouts of West Central Florida will honor two South Tampa women at the 11th Annul Women of Distinction Luncheon Tuesday, March 13, at the A La Carte Event Pavilion in Tampa.

Robin DeLaVergne and Deirdre Dixon will be honored for their professional achievements that inspire girls to attain their own goals and dreams.

April Monteith, Women of Distinction Event Chair, representing Girls Scouts of West Central Florida, said that DeLaVergne and Dixon’s accomplishments and dedication to community service have made them role models for the young members of the Girl Scouts.

DeLaVergne, senior vice president and executive director of Tampa General Hospital Foundation, is a graduate of the University of South Florida with a Master of Science in audiology.

She has held a number of high-profile positions in the Tampa Bay area and currently serves as the secretary-treasurer of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, and is chair of Together for Kids.

Dixon, who has two graduate degrees, is working on her doctorate of management and is an adjunct professor at the University of Tampa.

She is member of one of the first classes of women to graduate from the U.S. Military Academy in 1984 and a master parachutist with more than 75 jumps. She retired as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army after serving as a company commander in Iraq during Desert Storm.

Dixon chairs the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce’s Military Appreciation Dinner and is a part of Congresswoman Kathy Castor’s admissions council.

Jean Gibson of Lake Wales and Gwin Londrigan of Safety Harbor will also be honored during the sold-out 2012 Women of Distinction Luncheon that will feature guest speaker Joan Lunden, who is an award-winning television journalist, New York Times bestselling author and successful entrepreneur.

The luncheon is one of the events planned throughout 2012 to commemorate 100 years of Girl Scouts of West Central Florida.
