WATCH: Derek Jeter's Goodbye Ad Creates Quite the Buzz
Gatorade's scoring a home run with its YouTube release.

Before Derek Jeter bids the Yankees and New York adieu for full-time retirement at his Davis Islands home in Tampa, he wanted to say goodbye to the city that gave birth to his Major League Baseball career back in 1995.
The soon-to-be former Yankees shortstop is retiring at the age of 40.
Jeter’s final appearance against the Tampa Bay Rays took place Tuesday when he was presented with a kayak, a No. 66 Rays jersey worn by senior advisor Don Zimmer and a check for $16,000 payable to his Turn 2 Foundation. That nonprofit covers the cost of a number of youth-related initiatives, including scholarships for students at Tampa’s St. Peter Claver Catholic School, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

While Tuesday’s farewell in Tampa created quite a buzz – especially when Jeter was hit with a pitch – Gatorade is making the biggest splash with its video ad that shows the baseball great saying goodbye to the people of New York as he strolls through the city. Although Jeter has announced plans to become a full-time Tampa resident, he’s still lauded as the Yankees’ all-time hits leader. He’s a 12-time All-Star that was technically drafted by the Yanks in 1992. His big league debut came in 1995 against Seattle.
