Watch: Paul McCartney Jams With Local Band at Grad Party

Members of Josh Walther & The Phase5 Band were thrilled when they were asked to play a private graduation party for Sir Paul McCartney’s stepson over the weekend, but the surprises kept coming.

“Thrill of a lifetime having Sir Paul McCartney sit in with the band last night,” the group reported on its Facebook page following the May 9 party for Rollins College graduate Arlen Shevell.

The post explained members were honored to be asked to provide the entertainment and they were “really excited that he (McCartney) was the first person on the dance floor and remained there for our entire 2 hour show.”

They, however, didn’t expect McCartney to get up and take the mic.

“Nothing would prepare us for the moment when he asked if he could sing a few with us.”

McCartney, who first rose to fame with the Beatles, sang “I Saw Her Standing There,” with the band. He then did a little improv number titled “Graduation Song,” according to Orlando Weekly.

Phase5 has been together for more than five years and has two albums released so far. The band has more than 500 weddings under its belt, according to its website, and has been named the Bay area’s Best Wedding Band by Tampa A List and Best Band courtesy of Yelp reviewer, among other accolades.

Josh Walther & The Phase5 Band appear next at Eddie V’s, 4400 W. Boy Scout Blvd. in Tampa on May 21 at 6:30 p.m. They’re also appearing at the Tampa Bay Margarita Festival May 23.
