Weekend Weather: What to Expect

Find out what's in store for the Tampa Bay area.

TAMPA, FL — Tampa Bay area residents might want to batten down the hatches over the next few days as stormy conditions dominate much of the weekend’s forecast.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday kicks things off with a 90 percent chance of thunderstorms during the daytime hours. A high surf advisory, lake wind advisory and rip current warnings have also gone up in coastal areas, including Hillsborough, Pasco, Manatee, Sarasota and Pinellas counties.

Friday’s high should climb to about 75 degrees in much of the Bay area with an overnight low around 60. The stormy conditions are anticipated to clear out in the nighttime hours and into the day on Saturday. A high in the mid-70s and sunny conditions are anticipated in the daytime Saturday.

Saturday’s sunny start, however, isn’t expected to last. A 70 percent chance of showers and storms is forecast in the overnight hours, along with a low around 60. Some of the storms could become strong to severe, forecasters warn.

Sunday

  • High temperature – Upper 60s
  • Low temperature – Upper 40s
  • Rain chances – About 70 percent during the daytime hours with a chance for strong to severe storms

Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday)

  • High temperature – Low 60s
  • Low temperature – Low 40s
  • Rain chances – There’s no rain in the forecast for the holiday
