Weekend Weather: Ups And Downs Expected

Find out what's in store for the Tampa Bay area this weekend.

TAMPA, FL — The sunny streak the Tampa Bay area has been experiencing is expected to stick around as the weekend gets under way, but it’s just not meant to last.

The National Weather Service forecast for the region shows a weekend of ups and downs is in the cards. Friday kicks things off with near postcard-perfect conditions. The day is expected to be mostly sunny and dry with a high in the mid-80s. An overnight low in the mid-60s should follow with no rain chances in the forecast.

Partly sunny conditions and a high around 80 are expected with Saturday’s arrival. Clouds are anticipated to move in during the overnight hours with a low in the mid-60s once again forecast.

Sunday is expected to be a day of change with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast. While severe weather conditions aren’t anticipated, the weather service does warn that the storms could produce strong, gusty winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning strikes in some areas. The day’s high, despite the rain, is expected to reach about 80. Storm chances persist into the evening hours.

Rain chances are expected to stick around for the start of the workweek. As of Friday morning, there was a 20 percent chance of showers on Monday with a high around 80 expected.

Just a reminder: Daylight Saving Time also kicks off this weekend. Clocks spring forward one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday.
