Tampa Bay area residents hoping for warm, sunny conditions as the weekend gets under way are in luck, but they’ll likely have to contend with afternoon storms each day.
According to the National Weather Service, highs Friday, Saturday and Sunday are expected to climb to about 90 degrees throughout most of the region with lows only falling into the lower 70s in the overnight hours. Plenty of sunshine is in the cards all three days, but storms may put a damper on outdoor activities in the afternoon hours.
Friday brings the greatest chance for showers mainly between 2 and 5 p.m. with some chance remaining into the evening hours. On Saturday and Sunday, storm chances drop a bit into the 40 to 50 percent range with development expected mainly after 2 p.m. Thunderstorms that do develop over the weekend have the potential to dump locally heavy rain while producing strong wind gusts and frequent lightning strikes, forecasters say.

While storm chances are fairly high throughout the weekend, they do drop heading into the workweek. Monday’s forecast calls for a high around 88 and a slight chance of thunderstorms in most parts of the Bay area.
