What's Open, What's Closed On Labor Day?

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – While you enjoy a labor-free Labor Day – with the exception of maybe tossing a couple of steaks on the grill – here’s a list of what will be open and what will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3.

Retail Stores

Never fear. You’ll be able to run to Publix, Walmart, Target, Fresh Market or Sprouts for that forgotten bottle of mustard on Labor Day. Most national retail chains will be open on Labor Day although hours may vary.

Hillsborough County Government

On the other hand, most Hillsborough County government offices and facilities will be closed on Labor Day.

There will be no solid waste collection (including garbage, recyclables and yard waste) in the unincorporated Hillsborough County service area, which includes Tampa Palms, Hunter’s Green, and New Tampa.

For customers whose collection day falls on Monday, normal service will resume on the next scheduled day for pickup of those items.

Hillsborough County conservation parks will be open on Labor Day.

The Veterans Memorial Park and the Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins Jr. Veterans Museum will be open regular hours but the Veterans Resource Center at the park for benefits assistance will be closed.

The following will be closed:

· The Southeast County Landfill, Northwest and South County transfer stations, Resource Recovery Facility, community collection centers and yard waste processing facilities

· All libraries in the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative

· All County recreation centers and skate parks

· The Pet Resource Center (normally closed on Mondays). A limited number of animal safety and enforcement officers will be on call for emergencies only. Submit a request via the Animal Request button here at HCFLGov.net/AtYourService.

· Hillsborough County’s Customer Service Center

· The Center for Development Services

· All Social Services community resource centers, county-operated Head Start/Early Head Start Centers, and senior centers and nutrition sites

· The Sunshine Line transportation service

· Public Utilities customer service centers in Northdale and Brandon. Emergency calls regarding county water and wastewater service may be made to (813) 744-5600.

City of Tampa

Residential customers who normally receive service on Monday will receive service on their next scheduled service day.

Regular residential solid waste collection service schedules will resume Tuesday.

Commercial customers who normally receive service on Monday will receive service on Tuesday, Sept. 4. Collection service will continue to run one day behind through Saturday, Sept. 8,

Regular commercial solid waste collection service schedules will resume Monday, Sept.10.

McKay Bay Transfer Station and Scale House at 114 S. 34th St. will be closed on Labor Day and will reopen on Tuesday.

City of Temple Terrace

The city of Temple Terrace will have no residential garbage or recycling collection on Labor Day.
