Windy Conditions Prompt Warnings: Tampa Bay Weather

Find out what's in store for the Tampa Bay area as the week continues.

TAMPA, FL – Sunshine and blue skies are in the Tampa Bay area’s start of the workweek forecast, but so are strong, gusty winds. Those conditions have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a number of advisories for the Bay area.

Weather service forecasters have issued a high surf advisory and rip current statement for coastal areas in such counties as Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Sarasota and Manatee. Those warnings are expected to remain in place until Monday evening as wind gusts up to 25 knots create potentially hazardous conditions on local waters and along area beaches.

“Beach goers are urged to stay out of the surf and heed the advice of the beach patrol and lifeguards,” the weather service wrote in Monday’s Hazardous Weather Outlook report. “Fisherman and other small craft operators may want to postpone trips into the Gulf until conditions improve on Tuesday.”

Outdoor burning is also ill advised on Monday, the service warned, as those wind gusts could create issues. A red flag warning related to fire hazards is expected to remain in place until Monday evening.

While winds are creating potentially dangerous conditions, Monday is expected to deliver a high in the mid-60s in much of the region and an overnight low in the mid-40s.

Tuesday is expected to kick off a bit of a warming trend with more sunny conditions and a high in the low 70s anticipated. The overnight low should fall into the mid-50s.

Here’s a look at how forecasters expect the rest of the workweek to shape up:

Wednesday

  • High temperature – Around 80 degrees
  • Low temperature – Mid-60s
  • Rain chances – Not anticipated

Thursday

  • High temperature – Low 80s
  • Low temperature – Upper 60s
  • Rain chances – About 20 percent in the day and nighttime hours

Friday

  • High temperature – Around 80
  • Low temperature – Upper 60s
  • Rain chances – About 40 percent in the daytime hours and 30 percent overnight

Forecasters anticipate the upcoming weekend to be a rainy one, but say temperatures should remain in the low 80s.
