Workweek Weather: Storms Expected in Tampa Bay Area

Thunderstorms are likely during the early part of the week, but conditions improve from there.

TAMPA, FL — Tampa Bay area residents hoping for warmer temperatures are in luck, but they’ll have to endure a few storms along the way.

According to the National Weather Service, Monday kicks off the workweek with mostly cloudy conditions and a high around 75 expected in much of the region. That warmer weather, however, won’t come with nice outdoor conditions right away. Storms are expected to arrive in the area in the evening hours Monday. Forecasters say there’s a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 p.m. with an overnight low in the low 60s expected.

Overnight patchy fog will give way to a stormy start to Tuesday. Forecasters anticipate thunderstorms to continue in the early morning hours with foggy conditions expected to stick around into the afternoon hours. Once the storms move out and the fog burns off, forecasters are anticipating a partly sunny day with a high around 70. Overnight lows should drop into the mid-50s in much of the region.

Monday and Tuesday’s storms may bring “strong gusty winds, locally heavy rains and frequent, deadly lightning strikes,” the service warned in its Hazardous Weather Outlook report Monday. Boaters are also being warned of the potential for low visibility as patchy sea fog moves into the area overnight Monday and into Tuesday.
