Workweek Weather: What to Expect

Find out what's in store for the Tampa Bay area as the week gets under way.

Tampa Bay area residents are in for a soggy week ahead as the region sees a return of summer-like afternoon storm patterns.

According to the National Weather Service, afternoon and evening storms are possible every day this week with thunderstorm chances especially high on Monday in the inland areas.

Monday’s forecast calls for a high in the mid-80s with a low around 70 in most of the Bay. “Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop over the interior this afternoon as sea breeze boundaries collide,” the agency warned in its Hazardous Weather Outlook report. Some of those storms could produce lots of lightning, strong wins and locally heavy rains.

While rain chances remain squarely in the forecast for the rest of the week, the weather service says no severe thunderstorms are expected Tuesday through Sunday, but those that develop could still be “capable of producing strong gusty winds, locally heavy rains and frequent deadly lightning strikes.”

Tuesday will bring a 20 percent chance of rain during the daytime hours in most parts of the region with slightly higher chances for storms overnight. The high that day will also reach the mid-80s with a low down in the 70s.

Rain chances for much of the Bay are set in the 50 percent range for Wednesday and Thursday both with those chances dropping to about 40 percent on Friday. The highs all three days will climb into the mid-80s with lows in the 70s.
