15-Year-Old Brought Gun To St. Pete High School: Police

A St. Petersburg High School student faces charges after bringing a gun to campus Tuesday morning, police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A 15-year-old was charged with having a gun on school property after bringing a firearm to St. Petersburg High School on Tuesday morning, according to a St. Petersburg Police Department news release.

A school resource officer saw the tenth grader, whose name wasn’t released, leave campus and return a short time later around 10:30 a.m., the agency said.

A campus monitor later saw the same student hand off an unloaded gun to another student in the gym.

The second student immediately laid down the weapon and walked away, police said. The student who handed off the gun ran off.

The student who brought the gun to campus was taken into custody by patrol officers.

He was charged with the possession of a weapon on school property, SPPD said.
