2 Cat Mutilations Reported in St. Pete

Authorities are asking residents to keep their pets indoors.

The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating two grisly animal cruelty cases that have been reported over the past two weeks.

The first case came to the police department’s attention on Sept. 29 when a mutilated cat was found in the front yard of a home in the 4100 block of 17th Street North. The cat belonged to a neighbor in that area, the agency wrote in an email to media.

“The cat had been clearly cut in half,” the email noted.

On Thursday, investigators were notified of a similar death. This time, a cat’s mutilated carcass was found in the 4400 block of 13th Lane Northeast. The case, police say, bears similarity to the Sept. 29 incident.

As the investigation continues, police are asking residents to keep their pets safe indoors. Anyone with information on the cases is asked to call 727-893-7780 or text SPPD plus a tip to TIP 411.
