2 Injured in Crash Involving St. Pete Cop

The police officer ran a stop sign, the department says.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating an injury crash involving one of its own.

According to the agency, the crash occurred around 4 p.m. along 40th Street. The officer was heading north on that road while another vehicle was heading west on 5th Avenue South.

“The police officer was at fault because she failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection,” an email from the department to media stated.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The police officer was transporting a teenage boy at the time for questioning. The teen was taken to All Children’s Hospital to be checked out for minor injuries, as well, the agency noted.

The officer was not injured in the crash.
