2 Students Brought Gun To High School: St. Petersburg Police
Two teenage boys face felony charges after being caught with a gun at Gibbs High School after a fight in the bathroom, St. Pete police said.
ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Two teenage boys face charges after being caught with a gun Thursday morning at Gibbs High School, according to a St. Petersburg Police Department news release.
A 16-year-old 11th-grader and a 15-year-old ninth-grader at the school were arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on school property, a felony, police said.
A fight broke out in a boy's bathroom at the school around 10:30 a.m. School resource officers responding to the fight saw the 15-year-old walk out of the restroom and hand a backpack to the 16-year-old student.

The 16-year-old ran away from the officers and left campus, SPD said. Officers on patrol in the area found the boy walking nearby and the backpack with a handgun inside.
Officers secured the gun and the students were taken into custody.
