300 Traffic Signals Out, Use Caution: Pinellas Sheriff
Widespread power outages have left about 300 traffic signals inoperative, and drivers aren't paying attention, say police.
ST. PETERSBURG, FL — With an estimated 300 traffic signals not working because of the widespread power outages in Pinellas County, the sheriff's office is reminding drivers to use caution on the roads. Sheriff's deputies and local police agencies are working to staff as many intersections as possible, the agency said Tuesday.
Deputies say some drivers are causing dangerous situations by not stopping at intersections as required by law. Drivers must treat intersections with non-functioning traffic signals as a four-way stop.
And watch out for workers clearing debris and follow all directional instructions and detour signs, police say.
