9/11 Commemorative Events Planned Sunday In The Tampa Bay Area
Ceremonies, motorcycle rides and other events are planned Sunday in the Tampa Bay area to commemorate the Sept. 11 attacks.
TAMPA BAY, FL — Sunday marks the 21st anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks of the Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia and United Flight 93, which crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Here are some ceremonies and other events in the Tampa Bay area commemorating the anniversary:

Where: Patriot Park, 424 150th Ave., Madeira Beach

Where: Meet at RaceTrac Station, 1722 James L. Redman Parkway, Plant City
Ride to local fire stations in Plant City and the surrounding area to drop off cookies and say “thank you” for their service.
When: Sept. 11, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Where: Gulfport Casino Ballroom, 5500 Shore Blvd. S., Gulfport
This event is hosted by the Gateway to the Gulf.
When: Sept. 11, 9 to 10 a.m.
Where: Tampa Firefighters Museum, 720 E. Zack Street, Tampa
This ceremony honors the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.
When: Sept. 11, 9 a.m.
Where: staging area at Wawa, 8910 Ulmerton Road, Largo
This free ride and tribute to first responders ends at Mission BBQ.
When: Sept. 11, 10 a.m.
Where: Curlew Hills Memory Gardens, 1750 Curlew Road, Palm Harbor
This special ceremony features keynote speaker Lee Ielpi, a retired New York City firefighter, master of ceremony Mark Wilson, helicopter flyovers, honor guards and musical guests.
When: Sept. 11, 10:30 a.m.
Where: Fort DeSoto Boat Ramp, 3600 Pinellas Bayway S., St. Petersburg
During this jet ski ride hosted by the Florida Ski Riders and Agitando Jet Ski, participants will visit the Skyway Bridge, Passage Key, Egmont Key and For DeSoto. There will be raffles, prizes and giveaways.
Four Stacks’ Second Annual 9/11 Memorial Day Run
When: Sept. 11, 10:30 a.m.
Where: ends at Four Stacks Brewing, 5469 U.S. 41 N. Apollo Beach
Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome to participate in this free event. It kicks off with a 5K through Mira Bay ending at Four Stacks, where food trucks will be set up. Donations made throughout the day support My Warrior’s Place.
When: Sept. 11, noon
Where: Orange County Choppers Road House & Museum, 10575 49th Street N., Clearwater
This event supports the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and features an honor guard flag ceremony, a bell ceremony, live music and a moment of silence at 2:30 p.m.
When: Sept. 11, 2 to 3:15 p.m.
Where: All BayCare Fitness locations
BayCare Fitness offers a Yoga Nidra — also known as Yoga Sleep — workshop on the art and practice of mindful, restful awareness through guided meditation. Yoga Nidra is practiced lying down and moves through various brain wave states in a deep state of conscious awareness. First responders attend for free in honor of the 9/11 anniversary.
Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk
When: Nov. 5, 8:30 a.m.
Where: Downtown Clearwater along Cleveland Street.
Looking ahead, this run/walk is hosted by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Participants will follow the footsteps of a 9/11 hero, New York City firefighter Stephen Siller.
