Just after noon, officers responded to a call about a person shot in the 4100 block of 12th Avenue South.

The victim was a 47-year-old woman who worked as a St. Petersburg sanitation worker for the past 12 years.

She was shot and killed while sitting inside her front-loader work vehicle, police said.

The victim, who hasn’t been named, leaves behind four children.

She and the suspect knew each other, and the shooting was a targeted attack, investigators said.

After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene and headed south.

Later in the afternoon, Florida Highway Patrol troopers found him in Lee County.

He was stopped on Interstate 75 southbound lanes by troopers and Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies, police said.

He barricaded himself in his vehicle and, after a stand-off, was taken into custody. The suspect’s name hasn’t been released.
