• Man Dies After Struggle With St. Petersburg Police During Welfare Check: PCSO (patch.com) — St. Petersburg residents should know that a 48-year-old man died Saturday after a struggle with city police officers conducting a welfare check on 5th Street N., according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. After being Tased and restrained, he stopped breathing, was hospitalized, and later pronounced dead, and the county's Use of Deadly Force Task Force is now investigating.
   

• Coast Guard awards $60M contract to improve Sector St. Petersburg (homelandprepnews.com) — A $60 million federal contract will overhaul the U.S. Coast Guard's Sector St. Petersburg waterfront, replacing hurricane-damaged facilities and adding new berthing, maintenance, training, and fueling infrastructure in the city. Work, slated through summer 2028, is meant to boost cutter readiness along Florida's Gulf Coast while modernizing stormwater systems, lighting, and support buildings right on St. Pete's shoreline.
   

• Historically St. Pete: How First United Methodist Church became a downtown St. Pete landmark (stpeterising.com) — Downtown St. Petersburg's First United Methodist Church, whose Gothic Revival sanctuary turned 100 in 2025, remains one of the city's most recognizable landmarks at 212 3rd Street North. This history column traces the congregation from its 1880s beginnings through boom times, economic hardship, wartime service, and even a Hollywood cameo, showing how the church's soaring bell tower and stained glass have anchored generations of local life.
