ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A West Coast coffee chain expanding across Florida is eyeing the greater Tampa Bay area, with a new location planned in west St. Petersburg, according to reports.
Dutch Bros Coffee has filed plans with the city to open one of its signature drive-thru-only coffee shops, with no dining area, at 1050 58th Street N., in the Tyrone Gardens shopping center, St. Pete Rising said.
The coffee shop will be built from the ground up at a site where a 25,041-square-foot building was recently demolished, the report said. Two additional outparcels will be built at the site.
This is part of the company's rapid expansion in the Tampa Bay area, the Tampa Bay Business Journal said. The coffee chain is planning locations or has shops in all seven counties across the region.
Dutch Bros, founded in 1992 in Oregon with a headquarters in Tempe, Arizona, currently has 38 locations in Florida, six of them in the Tampa Bay region, the company's website said.
Tampa Bay-area coffee shops include locations in Lutz, Riverview, Wimauma, North Port, Largo and Tampa.
The Largo coffee shop opened on East Bay Drive in November as the first Pinellas County Dutch Bros location.
Another new location is also being planned for Seminole, the Tampa Bay Times reported. The Seminole City Council unanimously authorized the city manager to negotiate a development agreement to build a Dutch Bros at the site of a previously approved PNC Bank at 7405 Seminole Blvd.
