1. Pinellas County Elections 2026 Guide: Candidates, How To Vote (patch.com) — Pinellas County voters, including those in St. Petersburg, are getting ready for the Nov. 3, 2026 general election, with detailed instructions on registration, vote-by-mail, early voting, and Election Day procedures. St. Petersburg residents will weigh in on the mayor's race, two City Council contests, and several major city referendums on stormwater bonds, housing on vacant lots, Harborage Marina, and Port of St. Petersburg lease rules.
2. Man Arrested in Shooting of Two People Following Fight in St. Petersburg (iontb.com) — A 26-year-old man has been jailed on two counts of attempted second-degree murder after an August 26 shooting outside a St. Petersburg home near 18th Avenue South and 13th Street South. Police say a teen and a 19-year-old were wounded as they tried to leave in an SUV, and a judge has set bond at $500,000 per count while the case proceeds.
3. St. Petersburg College launches its own police department (stpetecatalyst.com) — St. Petersburg College has created its own sworn police department to focus specifically on campus safety and student needs across its St. Petersburg-area campuses. Led by Chief Andrew MacPherson, the new force will work alongside existing security staff, meet new state safety requirements, and handle criminal reports and behavioral issues at college facilities, including public libraries.
4. Places This Week: Property leased to Rococo Steakhouse for sale (stpetecatalyst.com) — Several notable St. Petersburg properties are hitting the market, including the Rococo Steakhouse building on 2nd Avenue S., a renovated 1920s Crescent Heights bungalow, and medical condos near Bayfront and Johns Hopkins All Children's. The roundup also tracks big-ticket Clearwater and Treasure Island deals and a Trulieve-occupied US-19 site, offering a snapshot of where local investment and redevelopment are heading.
5. SOTD 9/24/26: Trees of Hell by Bonnie Prince Billy (wmnf.org) — Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's song "Trees of Hell" is WMNF's Song of the Day, and you can hear him live this Sunday, Sept. 27, at Bayboro Brewery in St. Petersburg. The write-up explores his haunting yet uplifting folk style and invites local fans to experience his music in person at the 5th Avenue South taproom.
