Arrest Made in Attack on Cabbie

The man now faces armed robbery charges in the Christmas morning incident.

A 52-year-old man faces armed robbery charges following a Christmas morning attack on a St. Petersburg cab driver.

Police announced the arrest of Kenneth Guzman Tuesday morning.

The incident that led to Guzman’s arrest unfolded around 1 a.m. Dec. 25 when a cab driver for Bats Taxi picked up a man near Central Avenue and 3rd Street. The cabbie drove the fare to the intersection of James Avenue South and Dr. Martin Luther King Street as asked. When he asked for payment for the ride, however, the man produced a straight razor and demanded the driver’s money.

The man took the cash and fled, police said.

Guzman was identified as a suspect in the case through a tip following the release of a surveillance video, an email to media from the police department stated. He was tracked down to a relative’s home on Central Avenue Tuesday morning and brought into custody.

Guzman now faces a single count of armed robbery.
