Arrest Made in St. Pete Homicide

The search for a second suspect continues.

The St. Petersburg Police Department has made an arrest in a Sunday evening shooting that left an 18-year-old man dead.

According to the agency, it received a call about a drive-by shooting at 1401 16th St. S. shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, they found Jerrod Evans suffering from a gunshot to the upper torso. Evans, police said, was shot near Johnny’s Food Mart after getting into a verbal dispute with a suspect, who has not yet been identified.

Evans was taken to Bayfront Medical Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police announced the arrest of Darzaughn Williams, 18, early Monday morning. Detectives say Williams was the driver of the car from which shots that ultimately killed Evans were fired. He has been charged with accessory after the fact to second-degree murder.

The search for the shooter continues. No further details are being released at this time.
