Arrest Made In St. Petersburg Homicide

The victim's body was found by a teenage boy walking to a school bus stop earlier this month.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The long arm of the law has caught up with a man wanted in connection with an April 7 homicide in St. Petersburg.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force found Juan Carlos Jimenez, 33, hiding out at a family member’s home in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico. Jimenez was brought into custody Monday around 9:08 p.m., the police department wrote in an email to media.

Jimenez was wanted in connection with the death of Shermaun Akins, 32. Akins was found dead in the parking lot at Alta Mar at Broadwater apartments by a teenage boy who was walking to a school bus stop. The 5:27 a.m. April 7 discovery in the 3856 34th Terrace S. parking lot kicked off an investigation into what police have classified as a murder. Akins died from upper body trauma, police have said.
