Beloved Parrot Paquita Dies At St. Pete’s Sunken Gardens: Watch
Paquita, a more than 60-year-old parrot at St. Petersburg's Sunken Gardens, died after being recently diagnosed with cancer.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Paquita, a more than 60-year-old Amazon parrot at St. Petersburg’s Sunken Gardens, died after being recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.
She was under the care of a veterinarian who specializes in avian and exotic medicine at the time of her death, according to a post from Sunken Gardens.
Paquita is remembered as a lively bird who enjoyed being around people. (Watch a video of her below.)

“(She) has so much fun interacting with guests! Her cheerful whistles and mischievous laugh could be heard throughout the Gardens and we will especially miss the sound of her joyfully singing out ‘PAQUIIIIIITA!’ to greet the children who visited daily from Great Explorations and throughout the community,” Sunken Gardens wrote. “Paquita will always be a cherished member of the Sunken Gardens family and a treasured part of our history.”
The gardens added, “What an honor it's been to be her caretakers and family for so many years.”
