Bicyclist, Pedestrian Killed In Fatal Crash: St. Pete Police
A Holiday man was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide after hitting, killing a bicyclist and a pedestrian, St. Pete police said.
ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A driver was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide in a Saturday afternoon crash that left a bicyclist and a pedestrian dead, according to a St. Petersburg Police Department news release.
Owen Gardner Whittaker, 21, of Holiday was driving north on 4th Street N. approaching the intersection of 72nd Avenue N. around 2:15 p.m. when he ran the red light and was hit by another car.
Whittaker went off the road, hitting the bicyclist on the sidewalk, a 62-year-old St. Petersburg man, police said. He also hit a 62-year-old woman walking on the sidewalk and then crashed into a light pole and crosswalk signal.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead on the scene by St. Pete Fire Rescue. The woman died a short time later at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.
None of the occupants of either vehicle suffered any injuries, police said.

The victims’ names are being withheld pending notification of their next of kin.
