Cab Driver Arrested In Hit-And-Run Death Of St. Pete Homeless Man

St. Petersburg Police have arrested the driver who is reportedly responsible for a fatal hit-and-run accident on Friday, June 29.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – St. Petersburg Police have arrested the driver who is reportedly responsible for a fatal hit-and-run accident on Friday, June 29.

According to police, at about 2:30 p.m. Plinnie A. McNelly, 58, a St. Petersburg homeless man, was trying to cross 34th Street North in the 3600 block but fell. He was sitting up in the roadway when a Ford Crown Victoria United Cab driven by Jimarez Donshay Reed, 26, reportedly struck Plinnie.

With the help of surveillance video from the area and a tip from a witness, investigators were able to determine it was Reed's cab that hit McNelly.

Reed was arrested Thursday night, July 5, and charged with leaving the scene of an

accident involving death. He also has five outstanding warrants from Hillsborough County.
