Join the Grand Central District Association on Thursday, September 17 at Coastal Creative for Taste of Grand Central: Cheers to 100 Years, an inaugural fundraising gala celebrating a century of the businesses, neighbors and community that have made Grand Central one of St. Pete’s most vibrant destinations.
Guests will enjoy signature bites from some of Grand Central’s favorite restaurants, a welcome glass of bubbles, a silent auction, community awards, and more — all while supporting the nonprofit Grand Central District Association and its work to keep the district thriving for the next 100 years.

St. Petersburg Museum of History

A notable period in Florida’s history came after the French/Indian War. When the Floridas came under Great Britain’s rule, West &amp; East Florida became England’s 14th &amp; 15th American colonies. The addition of the Floridas meant England now had colonies from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.
Our September 10 Happy Hour with the Historian will dive into Florida’s history during England’s rule. We’ll share details often hidden from U.S. history books, like the fact that Florida remained loyal to Britain when the Revolution began.
Rodney Kite-Powell is the Director of the Touchton Map Library and Florida Center for Cartographic Education at the Tampa Bay History Center, where he joined the staff in 1995. He received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida and a Master of Arts from the University of South Florida—both in the subject of U.S. history. Born and raised in Tampa, Florida, he has written and lectured extensively on the history of Tampa, Hillsborough County, and Florida.

This touring exhibition brings long-overdue attention to Georgia’s vibrant woodfiring tradition. The Contemporary Woodfire Potters of Georgia exhibition showcases a multigenerational collective of artists whose practices span folk pottery lineages, Japanese kilntraditions, and contemporary ceramic artistry—united by a shared devotion to the centuries-old craft of woodfiring. The group includes some of the most influential names in Southern pottery, among them legacy potters with more than 30 years of firing experience such as Roger Jamison, Geoff Pickett, Jon Brinley, and Allen Gee, as well as studio innovators including Stephen Hawks, and Ron Meyers. Equally central to the movement are the next generation of fire chiefs and apprentices—Rebecca Wood, Kyle Jones, and Liz Bloodgood—and a rising cohort of nationally recognized ceramic artists including , Linda Suskin, Kimberly Shelton and Joel Huff.
