Charges Filed In Fatal Shooting Of St. Pete City Employee

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Authorities have filed several charges against a man accused of shooting and killing a St. Petersburg sanitation worker on Wednesday.

Ladavion King, 43, is charged with second-degree attempted murder with a firearm, discharging a firearm in public, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and eluding a law enforcement officer following the shooting, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release. The charges were filed in Lee County.

King is accused of killing 47-year-old Tasha Moses, a mother of four and sanitation technician with the city of St. Petersburg, according to a WTSP report. Investigators said King fatally shot her while sitting inside her front-loader work vehicle.

St. Petersburg police also told WTSP the agency has obtained an arrest warrant for King on charges of first-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm.

King was taken into custody by state troopers and Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Wednesday afternoon after he was stopped on Interstate 75 south at Exit 128, FHP said.

According to police, state troopers received a be-on-the-lookout alert around 12:30 p.m. for King, who was believed to be suicidal following the homicide in St. Petersburg.

Troopers located King and attempted a traffic stop, but he fled, authorities said. Troopers then used a PIT maneuver to stop King's vehicle near the southbound Alico Road exit on I-75, FHP said. Following the stop, authorities said King barricaded himself inside the vehicle and refused to comply with commands.

Deputy-worn body camera footage shared by the Lee County Sheriff's Office shows deputies and troopers surrounding King's pick-up truck, which appeared to have bullet holes in the front and back windows, as they took him into custody.

According to authorities, King was hospitalized following the standoff. As of Saturday, he remained hospitalized in serious condition. Troopers didn’t say how he was injured or what injuries he suffered.
