Convicted Felon Accused of Killing Wife

The man was released on probation in April following a 1995 sentence on first-degree murder charges.

A 57-year-old St. Petersburg woman is dead and her husband is behind bars following a grisly discovery at 3033 Melrose Ave. S. Monday morning.

According to St. Petersburg Police, Barbara Warren was bludgeoned to death following a domestic dispute. Her husband, Darryl Warren, 46, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the slaying.

The case began to unfold around 1:50 a.m. Monday when a probation officer from the Florida Department of Corrections called St. Petersburg police about a possible homicide at the Warrens’ home, an email to media stated. The probation officer told police he had received a call from one of Darryl Warren’s relatives who told him Darryl had killed his wife.

Darryl Warren was released on probation in April 2014. He was serving a 25-year sentence on attempted first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and grand theft charges stemming from an October 1993 crime. Warren was sentenced in July 1995.

When St. Petersburg officers arrived on the scene, they saw a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier near the house. The car sped away, driven by Darryl Warren, police said.

Once inside the home, police found the body of Barbara Warren.

A statewide alert was issued for Darryl Warren’s arrest. He was captured at 6 a.m. in Flagler County.
