Cop Caught Masturbating in Car Suspended

The St. Petersburg officer was off-duty when the incident occurred.

A St. Petersburg Police Officer who was caught masturbating in his car has been suspended, the department announced Friday.

The disciplinary action stems from an Aug. 25 incident that occurred in a parking lot at 801 Central Ave. Officer Andrew Cane, 38, has just finished a shift teaching at the department’s Police Academy and was driving home. Overly sleepy, Cane pulled into the parking lot to rest, a report from the department’s Chain of Command Review Board stated.

Cane did fall asleep, the report said, but not before committing the act. “After a period of time, he was awakened by a tow truck driver knocking on his window,” the report said. “Officer Cane admitted to having his penis exposed and in his hand at the time the tow truck driver approached the vehicle.”

The command review board, which was convened earlier this week, determined Cane was guilty of conduct unbecoming an employee. He faces an 80-hour suspension and has been removed from the department’s SWAT team and Honor Guard. He’s also been referred to the department’s Employee Assistance Program.

“In 18 months, Officer Cane will be eligible to apply for open positions on the Special Weapons and Tactics Team and Honor Guard,” Chief Anthony Holloway wrote in the report.
