Cops: Officer Ran Over Sleeping Man
The accident happened Wednesday morning in St. Petersburg.

A 67-year-old man is in serious condition at Bayfront Health following a Wednesday morning accident involving a St. Petersburg Police officer.
According to the police department, Officer Nicholas Lazzari, 46, was in a marked cruiser, responding to a call around 2:45 a.m. when the accident occurred. The officer was heading north on Dr. Martin Luther King Street when he made a right turn onto Lake Maggiore Boulevard South. The 67-year-old man was lying down in the road, apparently asleep, police said in an email to media.
”The officer did not see the man and ran over him,” the email said, noting that man is small in stature and was wearing dark clothing. The cruiser dragged Duffy for a short distance before Lazzari was able to stop.
