Dead Pit Bull Found Floating, Tied to Cinder Block

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is looking for the person responsible.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A fisherman’s grisly discovery has prompted an animal cruelty investigation in Pinellas County.

According to the sheriff’s office, a fisherman reported finding a female brindle-colored pit bull floating water just off the Weedon Island Preserve around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

When deputies answered the call, they discovered the situation was worse. “Someone had tied a short rope around the dog’s neck and attached a cinder block to the rope,” an email from the agency stated.

Deputies say the dog is a brindle or brown-colored female pit bull. She had a white colored belly. Her remains were recovered from the water and released to the SPCA of Tampa Bay.
