Update: SWAT Call Out Ends Peacefully

Shots were fired inside a home on Jackson Street North.

A Tuesday morning SWAT call out to a St. Petersburg home ended peacefully with a man brought into custody.

The St. Petersburg Police Department said the incident began to unfold just after 9 a.m. at 810 Jackson St. N. The department received notice of shots fired inside the home and SWAT was called into play when the man inside the home refused to come out.

Police say the call-up ended just before noon when Barry C. Lundberg, 35, left the home through its backdoor and turned himself over to officers. Lundberg was uninjured.

Officers found Lundberg’s 84-year-old mother inside the home also unharmed. She was transported to a local hospital for a health evaluation.

“Upon a further search of the home four firearms were located, two handguns and two rifles,” an email to media from the department stated. “ It appears that Lundberg fired at least one of the handguns several times while inside the home.”

Officers who arrived on the scene just after 9 a.m. said they heard what sounded like gunshots coming from inside the home, the email said.

“Telephone contact was established with Lundberg who sounded mentally unstable and paranoid,” the email said.

No criminal charges have been filed. Lundberg was taken to a local mental health facility for evaluation, police said.
