Donavon's Surfer Tunes Make a Splash
Jannus Live's outdoor venue was just the right setting for Donavon Frankenreiter's mellow music.
ST. PETERSBURG – Surfer-guitarist Donavon Frankenreiter was right at home Friday night with the beach-minded folks of St. Petersburg.
Frankenreiter caught the wave of appreciative fans and good vibes at , another stop on the native Californian's tour to promote his latest release, "Glow."
As far as organization goes for a Frankenreiter show, the singer/pro surfer's Facebook page describes it succinctly: "We don't have a set show, if we did, I would go crazy... I love that element of surprise with music and surfing – you never catch the same wave twice."

That laid-back style seemed to fit right in with St. Pete fans, even the frenzied Frankenreiter followers who showed up at the courtyard to catch a glimpse of the legendary surfer turned musician. He enthralled listeners with hits like "Free" and "It Doesn't Matter."
He smiled frequently and seemed genuninely floored by the love that fans wanted to share with him.

A long time friend of fellow music sensation Jack Johnson, Frankenreiter was destined to be at center stage. Born in Downey, Calif., Frankenreiter first made a name for himself as a surfer, and traveled the world riding waves.
Frankenreiter met Jack Johnson in Hawaii, when he rented a house from his parents. Once Johnson and Frankenreiter became friends, musical collaborations followed. Between a mutual love for surfing and making melodies, the duo formed a bond that propelled both of them.
Frankenreiter was signed to Jack Johnson's label, Brushfire Records, releasing his first solo album in 2004. The self-titled debut featured Johnson and G-Love.
Today, Frankenreiter continues to make music and promote the mellow surfer lifestyle that his fans adore.
