Salty Topics: Emerging Insights into the Large-Scale Ecosystem Effects of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill

I am pleased to announce the 2nd year of “Salty Topics,” a Sea Grant sponsored speaker series at Weedon Island Preserve that connects the community with local marine research. We have a great line-up for the Fall 2012, continuing October 4th with Dr. Ernst Peebles, USF College of Marine Science, presenting Emerging Insights into the Large-Scale Ecosystem Effects of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. Registration is available at http://oilspillupdate.eventbrite.com/.
The USF College of Marine Science was one of the first academic responders to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. This presentation will provide overviews of different lines of research conducted by USF, with emphasis on how the spill may have affected the Gulf's food web. Dr. Peebles is Associate Professor at the USF College of Marine Science with more than 30 years of experience conducting research in the Gulf of Mexico and its estuaries.
We are pleased to host the series at Weedon Island Cultural and Natural History Center at 1800 Weedon Drive NE, St Petersburg, FL 33702, with refreshments donated from the Friends of Weedon Island (http://fowi.org). The public is encouraged to attend. I hope to see you there!
