Family, Friends Host Sendoff For Soldiers Headed To Iraq

More than 200 friends and family members gathered to bid farewell to the soldiers of the 641st Regional Support Group at Lassing Park.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- More than 200 friends and family members gathered to bid farewell to the soldiers of the 641st Regional Support Group at Lassing Park, St. Petersburg, on Saturday, Feb. 23. The 641st RSG will soon deploy to Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

Col. Daniel Leavitt, commander of the 641st, called his Army Reserve Soldiers "the embodiment of the Warrior Citizen."

"General MacArthur once said, 'There is no security on this Earth, only opportunity,'" Leavitt said. "To the Soldiers of the 641st, you are trained and you are ready for this opportunity."

Brig. Gen. Deborah Kotulich, Commander of the 143rd ESC, served as the honored guest. Army Reserve Ambassador Mary Burnham and Brig. Gen. Donald Absher attended to offer their support to the 641st.
