Fatal Apartment Complex Shooting Leaves 1 Dead: St. Petersburg Police
Officers are investigating the death of a man who was fatally shot at a St. Petersburg apartment complex Friday evening, police said.
ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A man was killed in a Friday evening shooting at a St. Petersburg apartment complex.
Officers found Derrick D. Mims, 32, dead when they responded to reports of a person being shot at Baypointe Preserve Apartments, 11901 4th Street N., around 5:40 p.m., according to a St. Petersburg Police Department news release.
Mims was found lying on the pavement with upper body trauma, police said.

He was brought to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His family has been notified.
Detectives believe the shooting "was an isolated situation," according to SPPD. The investigation is ongoing.
