Fatal DUI Crash Caused By Woman With Children In Car: St. Pete Police

A St. Pete woman who had two children in her car faces charges after a fatal DUI crash killed a 62-year-old man, police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A woman who was driving with children in the car faces charges in a fatal DUI crash that happened Monday evening, authorities said.

Leasha Boyd, 37, of St. Petersburg, who was found to be driving while impaired, was charged with driving under the influence manslaughter, as well as two counts of child neglect, according to a St. Petersburg Police Department news release. She was booked into Pinellas County Jail.

Around 7:30 p.m., she was driving west on 38th Avenue N. — with a 12-year-old and a 5-year-old in the car — approaching 40th Street N.

At the intersection, she hit a pickup truck traveling north on 40th Street N., causing it to roll over, police said.

The truck’s driver, 62-year-old Miguel Diaz Arzola of St. Petersburg, was pronounced dead at the scene by St. Pete Fire Rescue, who extricated him from the vehicle.

Both children were brought to All Children’s Hospital for minor injuries, police said. State law doesn’t allow the agency to disclose their relationship to Boyd.

The investigation remains ongoing.
