Fatigue Possibly to Blame in Fatal 1-Vehicle Crash

The wreck happened early Thursday morning on 1st Avenue North.

The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating an early morning crash that claimed the life of a man Thursday.

According to the agency, Akeen Flanning, 30, was heading westbound on 1st Avenue North at a high rate of speed in a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero when his vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree in the 5400 block.

Flanning, police say, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time. He was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with life-threatening injuries, but later died.
