Ferg's Ready To Rock The World After Saving Iconic Globe Sign

Ferg's owner Mark Ferguson is inviting the community to help him celebrate the installation of the iconic sign with a lighting ceremony.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- The funky globe sign that stood in front of World Liquors on Central Avenue since 1961 has a new home at Ferg's Sports Bar & Grill in the EDGE District. And Ferg's owner Mark Ferguson is inviting the community to help him celebrate the installation of the iconic sign with an official lighting ceremony Friday.

The Ferg's Lights Up The World Bock Party will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. at 1320 Central Ave.

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman will be on hand for the lighting ceremony.

Afterward, The Bus Stop Band will perform Top 40, Motown, R&B, Funk, Old School and Soul. Family- and pet-friendly activities and giveaways will take place throughout the night in the Ferg's Entertainment Complex, Ferg's Axe & Ale, Ferg's Dog Park, Ferg's Upper Deck, Ferg's Party Deck, Ferg's Courtyard and Ferg's Pavilion.

Residents were concerned about the fate of the distinctive, three-dimensional sign when World Liquors was demolished to make way for apartments in 2018. Ferguson settled the matter, purchasing the sign at an auction for $5,060.

He had the sign completely restored and then hired a crane to lower the sign in place in front of the popular sports bar two weeks ago.

Founded in 1992, Ferg's Sports Bar & Grill encompasses almost two city blocks, and has become a hot spot for lovers of live music, craft beer and signature burgers.

With its easy access to Tropicana Field through the 1st Avenue South tunnel, Ferg's is also to official gathering spot for Tampa Bay Rays fans.
