FL Mother's Day Forecast: Thunderstorms Expected In Some Areas

While parts of FL can expect sunny skies over Mother's Day weekend, other areas can expect showers, thunderstorms and winds, NWS said.

Good news for those in central and southern parts of the state planning a day at the beach or park with family for Mother’s Day: mostly sunny and warm temperatures are expected over the weekend, forecasters with the National Weather Service said.

However, those in northern Florida should plan for indoor activities with mom as showers are likely over much of the weekend, NWS said.

Tampa Bay

In the Tampa Bay area, Friday started with some patchy, while mostly sunny skies with a high temperature of 92 degrees and a heat index value as high as 98 are expected. Friday night will be partly cloudy with a low of 74.

Saturday will be mostly sunny with some light winds, the NWS Tampa office said. A high of 92 is expected.

Cloud coverage will increase Saturday night with a low around 75.

Sunday will be partly sunny with a high near 92 and light winds that calm by the evening. Skies will be mostly cloudy at night with a low of about 76.

Miami

Further south in the state, Friday is forecast to be sunny with a high near 90, the NWS Miami office said. Friday night is expected to be mostly clear with a low of 79.

Saturday calls for mostly sunny skies with a high of 90 and light winds, while Sunday will be partly sunny with a high of 89, forecasters said.

Saturday and Sunday night will see cloudy skies with a low around 81.

Orlando

There’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the Orlando area after 1 p.m. on Friday, the NWS said. Before then, the day will be mostly sunny with a high near 92 and light winds.

The chance of storms Friday night remains steady at 40 percent with mostly cloudy skies, light winds and a low around 74.

Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 94, forecasters said. Light winds in the morning will pick up by the afternoon and wind gusts could reach as high as 20 mph.

Clouds are expected to increase Saturday night with a low around 74.

On Mother’s Day, there’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 and 8 p.m. in the Orlando area, the NWS said. Partly sunny skies are expected throughout the day with a high of 93 and light winds. Sunday night is forecast to be mostly cloudy with a low of 75.

Northeast Florida

Northeast Florida can expect cloudy skies with a high near 83, and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday, the NWS in Jacksonville said. Light winds will increase as the day goes on, with gusts as high as 16 mph.

The chance of showers continues into Friday evening, especially after 8 p.m., with cloudy skies and a low of 68 expected.

On Saturday, there’s an 80 percent chance of showers throughout most of the day with an increased likelihood of thunderstorms after 2 p.m., forecasters said. Temperatures will hit a high near 88 degrees with light winds in the morning.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected into Saturday night and early Sunday with a low around 69, the NWS said.

Mother’s Day has an 80 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm throughout the day, and a high near 87, with a calm wind starting in the afternoon.

The 80 percent chance of rain continues Sunday night into early Monday with a low around 69.

Panhandle

The Panhandle can expect a cloudy and rainy weekend, the NWS Mobile/Pensacola office said.

There’s an 80 percent chance of rain Friday with a chance of showers and thunderstorms starting at 10 a.m. and increasing throughout the rest of the day, forecasters said. Light winds and a high near 75 are expected.

Storms are expected Friday night and into early Saturday with cloudy skies and a low of 67.

There's a 90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday with a high near 80 and light winds, the NWS said. A 50 percent chance of storms continues that evening with a low of 68.

Families in the Panhandle will contend with a rainy Mother’s Day on Sunday with a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, the agency said. Partly sunny skies, winds from 5 to 10 mph, and a high near 83 degrees are forecast for the day.

The possibility of storms continues into Sunday night and early Monday with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 67 expected.
