Amendment 1: Health Care Services

This proposed amendment would give Florida the ability to opt out of the new federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

A number of organizations oppose this amendment, including the League of Women Voters of Florida. The concern is this amendment conflicts with federal law and might be declared unconstitutional.

Supporters of the amendment say it would send a message to Congress that it overstepped its authority by requiring people to purchase health insurance.
