Florida Amendment 9: Property Tax Exemption for Veteran's Surviving Spouse
Take a closer look at the proposed amendment to the Florida Constitution before you vote,

Amendment 9: Homestead Property Tax Exemption for Surviving Spouse of Military Veteran or First Responder
This amendment would give full homestead property tax benefits to the surviving spouses of military veterans and first responders who are killed in the line of duty. The new rule would require that the deceased be a Florida resident as of Jan. 1 of the year they died.
Opponents, including the League of Women Voters of Florida, say the amendment would cost local governments $1.8 million over the first three years of implementation and would take funding away from education and services.
