Groundbreaking Set For Deuces-I-275 Lighting-Landscape Project & You're Invited!

Public ceremony set Monday to launch the improvement effort to the I-275 underpass.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – St. Petersburg will begin work on the Deuces-Interstate 275 Underpass Lighting and Landscape Improvement project in the next few weeks, and the public is invited to join city officials for groundbreaking ceremonies at 9 a.m. Monday, June 19, beneath the I-275 overpass, at the corner of 22nd Street and Seventh Avenue South.

Parking will be at the nearby Manhattan Casino at 642 22nd St. S.

The Capital Improvement Project features Aesthetic Lighting and Landscape Improvements to the I-275 Underpass at 22nd Street South, including construction of new sidewalks and colored concrete surfaces in the parkway, landscaping and new lighting components.

The project also involves relocation of the limited access fence, removal of broken sidewalk and removal of asphalt from the parkway. In addition to enhancing safety and aesthetics within The Deuces Main Street District, the Economic Development initiative will also feature an art component.

The Deuces Design Committee will be working in conjunction with the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance and St. Petersburg Public Arts Commission.

The Deuces at I-275 Underpass project is also located within the boundaries of the city's 30-year Community Redevelopment Area initiative for South St. Petersburg. Construction costs for the initial phase of the I-275 Underpass Capital Improvement Project is just more than $493,000. Construction should take about four months, with completion anticipated by the end of October.
