Halfacre Construction Company recognized with award of distinction

The area’s oldest commercial construction company, Halfacre Construction Company (HalfacreConstruction.com), was recently recognized with the Office of Supplier Diversity Award of Distinction from Hillsborough County Public Schools.

This is the fifth award for Halfacre Construction since 2007-08. The commercial construction firm was specifically acknowledged due to its success in utilizing subcontractors who are part of the Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) Small Business Encouragement Program.

Each year, the District's Office of Supplier Diversity recognizes those construction managers who exceed expectation for outstanding accomplishments. The award presentation took place on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at the Raymond O. Shelton School Administrative Center at 901 E. Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa. Tom Rees, a project manager with Halfacre Construction, attended the ceremony and accepted the award on the company’s behalf.

"The Office of Supplier Diversity's efforts to grow the use of small businesses in the Tampa Bay area is dependent on its prime vendors embracing the District's vision of tax dollar reinvestment,” said Eric J. Graham, the officer of supplier diversity. “Halfacre Construction's track record is one of consistency, not only in their delivery of District assignments, but also with their execution in exceeding the District's small business use expectation of 20 percent.”

Construction management firms retained by the District are expected to spend a minimum of 20 percent of their eligible construction expenditures with subcontractors and suppliers registered with this program. The two projects substantially completed by Halfacre Construction exceeded 25 percent utilization of certified small businesses, the second highest of all construction management projects substantially completed in the 2016 fiscal year.

“It was our pleasure to recognize Halfacre Construction’s 2016 success in once again being one of the District's leading construction management firms in the utilization of Tampa Bay area small businesses registered with our Encouragement Program,” Graham said.

This utilization is based upon the lowest, responsible bids, which assists the District with its vision of reinvesting tax dollars back into Tampa Bay area small businesses without sacrificing efficiency and cost effectiveness.

The Small Business Encouragement Program is committed to ensuring economic growth that touches the entire community, with an emphasis on certified small businesses, including women and minority-owned businesses.
