Historic St. Pete High School To Get Modern Upgrades
St. Petersburg's oldest high school is about to get some 21st-century upgrades.
ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- St. Petersburg's oldest high school is about to get some 21st-century upgrades.
On Monday, the historic St. Petersburg High School hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off a multi-million-dollar renovations to the school campus.
The high school first opened in 1898 and the current campus was built in 1926. In 1984, the school was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The school district has allocated more than $30 million for improvements to St. Petersburg High School, 2501 5th Ave. N. Because of its status as a historic landmark, any changes to the school must meet strict guidelines to preserve the school's history.
Construction will include renovating historic building classrooms, the auditorium and the administration office space, building a new cafeteria and enlarged courtyard area, and overall updates to infrastructure throughout the school. Construction will take about two years.
