How Heavily Armed Is Florida?

An analysis of gun ownership numbers puts Wyoming in the No. 1 spot, but the least-armed state in the nation is likely to surprise.

ST. PETE, FL — Florida has more than 1.4 million concealed weapons license holders, but it doesn’t come close to leading the nation in the number of guns per capita.

As it turns out, the Sunshine State is ranked No. 30 in an analysis conducted by CBS News with data from the ATF’s National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, as well as 2013 Census data. The CBS analysis put the number of guns per 1,000 Floridians at 10.2.

Only firearms included in categories regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934 are included in the analysis that covered all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
